Stop being so honest and opened about your feelings. It's mind blowing and heart breaking/endearing at the same time kjndkjs Goddamn it, Richard, seriously. He is the sweetest thing I ever seen in an rpg, and his opened feelings for Asbel is surprising and endearing.
It's also somewhat disturbing that the
theme song is literally scenes and dialog from the game...

This skit Asbel: Richard, where does it hurt?
Richard: No. I'm afraid. (He talks about drawing his sword on others and being hostile) When I think about that, my chest hurts.
Asbel: Richard, you don't have to worry. Those fears and concerns... I'll take over everything. Please don't forget that I am by your side. By my own free will. And... I'll help out.
Richard: You'll... help?
Asbel: By being your sword, I will help. No matter where I am, your hopes will also be my hopes.
Richard: I understand. We'll proceed together, Asbel.
Asbel: Yes, Richard!
"We can share everyday in every way we hold the promise of tomorrow Call my name anytime when your heart feels sorrow I'll wipe the tears from your face I'll be there for you I'll be right by your side" Richard promises to cherish that.
Then the song says so wtf
"I promise to cherish eternally"
"I believe your love I believe in our love No matter what I know our end is true" The hope thing.
There's another part, after the party defeats crazy Richard a second time Malik says, "We need to stop him once and for all"
Asbel: "No. I can hear Richard's voice."
Richard: "Asbel... it hurts... please save me... I don't want to die... I don't want to disappear... please don't kill me."
"I want you to know my heart glows from your touch In your arms all the pain inside washes right through Together we'll find the way" Whenever Asbel reaches to Richard, his light shines and he wakes out of the possession rage. And when Asbel held him while he was screaming from the pain, Lambda washed out of Richard entirely.
"Hold me tight I wanna feel you close don't let me go. I want us to be until the end of time" Richard is afraid to die and lose that, Richard is afraid to disappear to Lambda.
"Call my name anytime when your heart feels sorrow I'll wipe the tears from your face" Asbel, he always calls out to Asbel. I want to see a Richard version of the "Kurea kurea kurea kurea" video.
"You're the only one to get me through this life" Everyone: LETS KILL HIM
Asbel; No guys I can hear him :C I'LL SAVE YOU RICHARD.
Beginning of the song

This and DAT CAVE IN CHILDHOOD, when Richard thought Asbel and his friends died. But then Asbel comes back many years later, and Richard was practically the only one to welcome him back openly. It wasn't a shocker, especially after his letters stating that he missed him and wanted to see him again.

Last bit is last because its end game spoilers.
"I wish that our hearts could be one I wish that our hearts could be one" Lambda tries to in Richard, but he winds up doing so in Asbel instead. Not a bad thing, because Lambda is purified.
THEN WAIT. Asbel and Cheria have a son who they name Lambda.
SO the weird demon child that tested their friendship and pitted them against each other with their swords drawn seperates them again, but through Asbel's child who is named Lambda.
That little boy separates them forever...!
